Abstract

The main idea of the proposed system is to expedite teaching for ( Teachers , Doctors, . . . etc ) and to help students in understanding or concentrating thus it improves the communication between them. The main problem is that the students and doctors lose the communication and interactivity in case a global pandemic happened. That’s why the proposed system helps in developing education through technology, which is a distance education using Virtual Reality (VR) technology. Further more, students shall be able to interact with objects and materials during lab time where it increase students interest and facilitate education process.

1.1 Background

Education is the basis of everything and life, and a person must strive to seek knowledge in any way. Because of the current emergency, COVID-19, conditions that led to the cessation of life and the suspension of education in schools and universities, distance education appeared through some programs such as zoom, google meet, etc. These programs helped millions in communicating with others, whether for the purpose of education or work. Eventually, some of the flaws appeared in these solutions as follows: some people do not pay attention 100 percent, especially children, and some sleep, and others do not listen to what is being said. Distance education requires careful thinking, planning, and development of technological and human resources for the successful accomplishment of expected learning outcomes [1]. However, in the current situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, there was very little time for preparation; the instructors had to act quickly and to adapt to remote teaching. In the process, they had support from their organizations (schools and universities) in providing e-learning platforms and other digital learning management systems and communication tools. Nevertheless, the main burden was on the instructors to adjust their teaching methods and materials to an online format. The question rises whether their teaching approach is still efficient when taken from the physical classroom and transferred to technological devices [2]. This project aims to develop the distance learning using the technology of virtual reality , Which is glasses that the student wears and allows the student to see everything in three dimensions as if the student is in a real classroom or a science lab , where the he/she live a real learning situation using the VR as it allows the student to see their colleagues ,instructors. Also increasing the student recognition of lab materials that help him understand courses or subjects clearly. As an example the student attending a science lab (biology, chemistry, … etc. ) He/she shall be able to see any organs or chemical reactions plainly . Furthermore, in case the student wanted to ask for something they would be able to interact with the teacher. With this solution, the student can feel that they are in a real classroom and thus he/she will focus more and cooperate more.

1.2 Motivation

Teachers began to face an extreme problem in explanation and communication with students which led to students having hard time understanding. So, this might be improved by providing a virtual machine for distance education to let students learn easily and teachers explain facilely also, they’re going to have decent communication. Education in Egypt faces great challenges. The advent of COVID-19 that threatened the world and preventing people from going to schools so, this led to invoke to online learning to let students and teachers communicate and learn easily [3]. Online learning tools ranged from educational content which students could explore at their own discretion and formalized learning programs conducted at their own pace, to real-time lessons led by their teachers using virtual meeting and video conferencing platforms such as Zoom, Skype, Cisco Webex, and Go to Meeting [4]. However, all these platforms are not designed in mind for distance education, especially for young children. In the process of teaching and distance learning, scholars have concluded that media is a tool that directs knowledge messages from the perspective of learning between teacher and student [5]. Initially, it was believed that the means of communicating information can influence learning effectiveness. But in the middle of the twentieth century, efforts to use audio were completed, and thus audio-visual aids were born. In line with technological advances, the use of learning aids or tools becomes more widespread, such as the presence of computers and the Internet. Over the past decade, Virtual Reality (VR) has shown to be an effective technology in improving distance education [6]. VR is a collection of several substantial technologies including simulation technology, multimedia technology, sensor technology, human-computer interface technology, computer graphics, network technology and other technologies [7]. Therefore, they are considered challenging interdisciplinary technologies frontier discipline and research field.

1.3 Problem Statement

The main problem is Due to global pandemic, Education might be affected as the interaction between students and instructors become less than usual, As The education must be a distanced education which may create many problems that affect the students awareness or understanding. For example, without using VR Technology, it will be so difficult for the teachers to make their student imagine the shape of the cube or the ball. However, it will be so interesting to illustrate such topics using the VR technology as shown in figure 1. Which Makes our proposed system important because it aims to develop VR based interactive distance education. Also by creating a Lip syncing tool that helps students understanding the instructor’s words or phrases by providing subtitles Post-Lecture.
